SEMINARS AND COURSE CODES (“EMNER”)

The Norwegian Institute of Philology offers both introductory courses (innføringskurs) and advanced seminars. Unlike the introductory courses, the seminars are not directly connected to course codes ("emner") and exams.
 
Students attending seminars can register for exams in one of a fixed number of course codes ("emner") that represent broad academic fields:

  • Classical European Philology 1 (Bachelor / Master) –– 2 (Bachelor / Master)

  • Indo-Iranian Philology 1 (Bachelor / Master) –– 2 (Bachelor / Master)

REGISTRATION

There are currently 8 formally defined subjects or course codes (“emner”) for course registration. Each course code has two levels (2 x 10 ECTS), level 1 typically offered in the fall term and level 2 in the spring. Suggestions for relevant seminars are indicated above. See the full list of seminars for reference.

The choice of code will vary according to the interest of the student attending one or several seminars.​ Students may also register for exams in these course codes based on self-study of a topic defined in agreement with a supervisor.

Anyone who wants to participate without taking an exam can register by writing an e-mail to: seminar@philology.no.
Link to course registration at MF Norwegian School of Theology, Religion and Society (deadline December 15th and June 15th). The procedure is similar to that used for the introductory courses (link to description in Norwegian).

To identify the relevant course codes and seminars, students should consult the staff at the Norwegian Institute of Philology or write to: seminar@philology.no.​

Bachelor and Master options: students enrolled in a Masters program or having completed a Masters degree, can choose the code for “Master”; otherwise, choose the code for “Bachelor”.
